Mini Tabletop Arcade
Game
Tabletop mini arcade games have had unique appeals ever
since they hit the market. But the 1980s was probably the
golden age of these mini arcade games were probably. Behind the
scene of the huge popularity of tabletop arcade games was, the
fact that the coin insertion and bulk fun of full size arcade
games was brought right at home tabletops with the mini
tabletop arcade games.
A guy from the 1980s can be overwhelmed by the nostalgia of
tabletop arcade games. But you can still get a touch of them as
many of these tabletop arcade games are available at eBay.
1. Pack man: If not one of a kind, this game has it’s own
characteristics with the black and yellow cabinet. It is
interesting that a game of such size was fitted into such a
small package. Here is more on this game-
About all those "secret passages"- regardless of the fact
that this game originates in the 80s, this tabletop mini arcade
game remarkably resemblances the full fledged arcade game
versions.
This game is designed to thrill the players with fun and
excitement. For instance, ghosts even in the initial levels are
ferocious and striking. Players love the feature that the
Pac-man seems to be on constant eating while you roam it around
mazes.
Critics believe that there was room for improvements in the
color applications of this game. The yellow and red colors used
in it could be well replaced with blue and pink.
Among the inside features of this game, there could be more
fruit bonuses in the game. The ghost values range between 200
to 1600, which can be replaced with a 100 to 800 points
range.
When it comes to the game variations, there are 3 avenues
for players-
1.Normal Pac-Man,
2.Eat & Run, and
3.Head To Head Pac-Man.
The Eat & Run is rated low by critics while the ‘Head to
Head Pac-Man’ was much more popular one as 2 players can play
the exciting moves simultaneously.
To make tit more competitive, the system tracks the score
differences of the players.
Improvements need to be introduced at the sound of this
game- some calls it incessant and whiney. There is zero
flexibility for the players to adjust the volume.
One final drawback with this machine is, there seem to be too
narrow space for 2 players to use the joysticks.
2. Galaxian: Compared to the contemporary arcade games, these
tablelop versions had some lacking. Here are some-
Aliens in this game look like bugs- not much creativity from
the designer.
Animations would pass the industry standards; still the
bombs coming from your enemies may seem virtually invisible at
times.
The boss aliens have not been given enough fierce/touch
image.
The progression of difficulty among the levels is not
rational. While level one is too easy, the next levels seem to
jump up with difficulty
Still, the "Midway's Attackers" is appealing to players. But
critics do not say the same for the Head To Head mode.
Another problem is, the two players can end up shooting at
each other.
Sometimes it becomes impossible to understand what’s going
on while the two players are playing simultaneously.
3. Frogger
Critics call it one of the most balanced tabletop arcade
games ever. Ironically, the makers got away with the
substandard animation as the key characters are hopping around.
Here are some good and bad of this tabletop arcade game-
In fact, the highway crossing, stream navigation and dealing
with box like vehicles make the game fun.
The specialty of this game remains in the huge face of the
frog as you see different expressions.
The color applications on the frogger’s are appealing and
resembles to the full-fledged arcade games.
Some users have rated it high as it creates melody rather
than noise. This game involved just 2 skill-levels.
Playing these mini tabletop arcade games would probably make
you nostalgic about the childhood in 80’s.
